CNC machining optimization is the work of looking at a part before it goes to production and asking a simple question: is every feature, tolerance and operation on this drawing actually earning its cost? Very often the answer is no. A complex shape can be reached with fewer setups, a tight tolerance can be opened up because the function does not need it, and a feature that forces a special tool can be redesigned around a standard one. Each of those decisions moves the price of the part.

How the review works
You do not need a finished design to start. A STEP file, a PDF drawing or even a sketch with target quantities is enough for a first pass. The process is short and practical.

Why CNC machining is expensive, and where the savings come from
A CNC part is priced mostly by the minutes the machine spends on it, plus setup, tooling and material removed. If you understand what happens on the shop floor, that cost is not a mystery, it is a sum of decisions made on the drawing. After fifteen years around metal production I read a part the way the machine will cut it, not only the way it looks in CAD. That is usually where the difference between an expensive quote and a fair one is hiding.
Take a common example. A bracket is drawn as a solid milled block with a deep pocket and a corner radius that matches a small end mill. To reach that corner the shop needs a long, slender tool run slowly so it does not deflect, which multiplies cycle time. Relax the internal radius by a couple of millimetres and a larger, stiffer tool clears the pocket in a fraction of the passes. Nothing about how the bracket works has changed, but the machining time has dropped. The same logic applies to tolerances: a hole called at a press-fit tolerance because it was easy to type costs far more than the sliding fit the assembly really uses.
The biggest wins often come from stepping back further. A complex machined shape can sometimes be simplified into a laser-cut and bent part, or split so only one small feature needs precision machining while the rest is produced cheaply. This is where a Lean view helps: we remove operations, clamps and handling steps that add cost but no value. FAQ
Why is CNC machining so expensive for my parts?
Almost always it comes down to machine minutes: tight tolerances, hard-to-reach features, many setups and a lot of material removed. A CNC manufacturability analysis shows which of those drivers your part really needs and which are there by habit, so the price reflects the function and nothing more.
How much can CNC machining optimization actually save?
It depends on how the part was drawn. Parts designed without the shop floor in mind often carry double-digit savings once radii, tolerances and setups are corrected. Parts that are already clean may only gain a few percent. We tell you honestly which case you are in before you invest in changes.
Do I have to change my current machine shop?
No. IRONsrv is independent and does not machine parts, so the goal is a better and cheaper part at your existing suppliers. The optimized drawing goes back to the same shop, which usually returns a lower quote for the same function.
What file should I send to get started?
