Where the savings come from
On most laser cut parts, material is the single largest cost. When the nesting is loose, when a part is drawn with features that force extra spacing, or when the sheet size does not match the part mix, you pay for metal that ends up as scrap. How much sheet metal scrap can nesting actually save?
It depends on the current layout, but on parts that have never had a nesting review the gap between what the sheet holds and what it could hold is often large. A review looks at part orientation, spacing, sheet size and the part mix on each sheet, then shows the achievable material yield against what you run today.
Do I need to change my part design to cut laser cutting cost?
Not always. A lot of the saving comes from how parts are arranged on the sheet and which sheet size is used, which does not touch the part at all. Where a small geometry change, such as a shared cut edge or a slightly different hole, unlocks a much better layout, we flag it, but you decide whether to make it.
What files do you need for a nesting review?
A DXF or STEP of the part, the material and thickness, and the sheet size you buy. The current cost per part or per sheet helps us show the saving in money, not just percent. Your files stay confidential and we sign an NDA on request.
Do you cut the parts or run the laser?
No. IRONsrv is independent and does not cut parts or sell machines or material. We review the layout and process and hand you a clear set of changes, which you or your own shop then run. That is what keeps the recommendation aligned with your cost, not a machine we want to sell.
